Adoption Possibilities

Goal #105 Adopt a Child

Yesterday, I visited with the social worker at the Cobán Regional Hospital. My inquiry was related to the possibility of adoption of an abandoned baby. She said that as long as we are residents of Guatemala, get approved as foster parents and are willing to pay the legal fees, it shouldn't be difficult at all.

Everytime I visit the hospital with a team, there is a baby or two (or three or four or five) that has been abandoned by his mother. Everytime, I experience a sharp pang of fatherhood.

So, in a year or so, we will likely pursue this opportunity to make our family greater...

...and I'll be able to cross #105 off.

Wow. it must be something else to be reminded of the need these babies have all the time. How heart wrenching. I am sure there is a special one just for you and when the time is right, you will be able to give him/her an amazing home (where Amber is cooking!)

If you're heart is breaking...that's a good thing...I believe that's God working in us to do something. What? I don't know...but something. When the tsunami disaster hit, I was overwhelmed with the fact that so many children were left parentless, homeless. Knowing the home I want to provide and am giving to my children, I can't comprehend the fact that there are so many children in this world that need what I am giving and want to give. So my dear friend, I sense it is the same with you. If God moves you in this direction, then do it. you will no doubt be blessed by it. Perhaps everyone should consider adopting.

Mother Teresa once spoke at the White House in an address to the American people, she had a solution to mothers considering abortion/abandonment of their children. Her solution...give them to her and she will take care of them. Imagine if all of us like you are able to do what you are considering...what a better world this would be---"...your kingdom come on heaven as it is on earth..."

Hooray! I remember going to the hospital in Coban and praying for some abandoned babies. I remember thinking that every single one was lovingly created with a plan and a purpose. How exciting for you both to see your role in His plan. This is truly beautiful. May God continue to Bless you!
